Supermicro MBD-X9SCM-O LGA 1155 Intel C204 Micro ATX Motherboard

This motherboard has all of the specifications that I was looking for, however fell short in reality. It requires a Sandy bridge processor and 1333MHz RAM to POST before updating the BIOS to a variant that will run Ivy bridge CPUs and 1600MHz RAM. Choice A is to purchase tens or hundreds of dollars of hardware just to get it to post. Choice B is to use up days or weeks of downtime and personal expense to sent the board to Supermicro for them to update the BIOS (at, as indicated by their tech support, my risk). Tech support was prompt, however notably unhelpful in addressing my questions about reflashing the BIOS. All told, this isn’t worth my time now.

Supermicro X8DTL-I Motherboard – 5500 Dp LGA1366 Qc MAX-24GB Atx PCIE16 3PCIE8 2PCI Vid 2GBE Sata

I have had two servers with the mother boards in them for over 2 years without any issues. With two Intel Xeons 5640s. Great performance on these. Don keeling.

Supermicro ATX DDR3 2600 LGA 1150 Motherboards C7Z97-OCE-O

Superb features and quality! OC’s beautifully. Most customization capability on a mother board I have ever seen.

SUPERMICRO MBD-X9SCA-F-O LGA 1155 Intel C204 ATX Intel Xeon E3 Server Motherboard

Have some number of of these in 24drive supermicro case, no issues encountered, think about max of 32GB ram, coupled with a good raid, enough for a decent fileserver, VGA output is a bit humorous wouldnt work too well on one Samsung monitor (badly misaligned), worked ok on a Dell one.

Supermicro X7DWE Motherboard – 5400 Xeon-dp LGA771 Dc MAX-32GB Atx 4PCIEX8 PCEX8 Pcix Fbd Vid Uio

The Firmware RAID didn’t work. After building the RAID the system failed to start from the CD to load the Windows OS.

Supermicro ATX Intel LGA1366 C7X58 Motherboard

With the current offering of x58 MB this one stands out for some number of reasons. It doesn’t sport any of the bling-bling you see on “eXtreme gam3r” merchandise like crazy heat pipes (moving “teh heatz” whole 3″ away!) and overclocking widgets. Instead it offers sensible thermal design – all slots are aligned with the air direction in the case from front to back, this will include DIMMs and power connectors, and SATA are angled on the edge of the board so the cables do not obstruct air-flow too. Unlike heat pipes this does supply better cooling. In place of overclocking alternatives it has complete set of powersaving and monitoring tools also decreasing heat and lots of 4-pin fan connectors with controlled speed so it may be made whisper-calm, particularly when idle. It supports ECC and 6 DIMMs which is a pretty rare combo. In general it is the best MB for work I could find – stable and calm. Note that the picture is of another MB – C7X58 doesn’t have two PCI-X slots shown. There are only solder points for them so keep this in mind if you have many add-on boards, this has 2 PCI-E x16, 1 PCI-E x8 and 1 PCI.

Supermicro Mini ITX DDR4 Motherboard X10SDV-F-O

Tl;dr: This board is junk and you may want to avoid it. I now have an costly door-stop that can USB boot a Linux distribution, however not run it locally. Not super useful. The good: The Xeon D-1540 is an economical calculate platform if you want to run lots of threads on a small power footprint. Cache and memory bandwidth are nice. But they are thanks to Intel. Supermicro did, but, manage to put the screw holes in places where they lined up with the case standoffs. Hard job, people. Niggles: Claims that it’ll run on a desk without fans are bogus; the CPU overheats in some minutes of just sitting in BIOS in a 18 Celsius environment. It does not have front USB 3 ports, if your case comes with the standard tight-pitch cable you are out of luck for more than two USB ports. It takes an eternity to POST – about a minute every time. The UEFI system looks very brittle and I kept having to switch between legacy and EFI modes for different peripherals. Dealbreakers: It can not boot from NVMe disk. It is super-picky about what USB sticks it will boot. I wanted to update the BIOS to see if they have fixed some of these glaring issues, however surprise – It will not boot FreeDOS at all (I tried USB and PXE). Supermicro is bad about answering questions and is fast to brush the board’s awful behavior off as user-error.

Supermicro Atom S1260/Intel Centerton/DDR3/SATA3/V&2GbE/Mini-ITX Server Motherboard

I like this board for its low power joint with the capability to have 8G memory and IPMI. But, note that it’ll not work with non-ECC memory. This isn’t completely evident from the specifications, and ECC SO-DIMM memory isn’t so easy to find. I’m using this Kingston part (which is available from Amazon) : KVR13LSE9/8.

Supermicro Server Barebone System (SYS-5017P-TLN4F)

These systems are amazing! they are just small, fast, dependable, & nearly totally silent. 4x gigabit ethernet makes a great firewall, and the intel dual 10gb sfp+ 520 model works great in the pcie x16 slot. Note: these require ECC SO-DIMMs. Be sure you check the supported memory list on the supermicro web site for this server and order the right stuff. Bottom line, less than 1,400 for Supermicro Intel Core i7 w/16GB of ram and PCI Express x16 expansion in a small silent footprint. Great for firewalls, Active Directory Domain Controllers, and just about anything else, and at a price tag you could nearly deem ‘disposable’.

Supermicro C2SBC-Q-B LGA775/ Q35/ DDR2/ A&V&2GbE/ ATX Motherboard

This arrived in a cardboard Amazon box. No cables. No backplate for the PC case. No retail box. It states "new" on the order, however I have to doubt this. I have not installed this still because now I have to search for a backplate. Will update the review after installation.
